Viterra B.V is seeking a Maritime Claim Handler to join our Legal Department in Rotterdam. As a Maritime Claim Handler, you will advise on contract terms, mainly charter parties and you will handle disputes arising under different type of commercial agreements (charter parties, bills of lading, etc.). About the team

The legal team consist of 10 lawyers working on maritime, commercial and corporate matters. The colleagues in the team are passionate about their jobs and work together in an informal, cooperative way.

Job description
  • Provide advice on maritime law issues, charter party terms and bills of lading;
  • Handle Claims - (defending or claiming) all types of disputes arising under charter parties, including but not limited to casualties, groundings, accidents at sea, ship arrests, marine pollution, salvage issues;
  • Reporting claims to relevant insurers;
  • Responsible for arbitrations and/or litigations;
  • Training operations department on relevant maritime law issues.

All tasks are to be performed under the supervision of the maritime law coordinator.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a law firm or P&I Club, or as in-house counsel;
  • Master’s degree in Maritime Law;
  • Good knowledge of English Law;
  • Proficiency in English language is mandatory; additional languages highly desirable;
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to identify key issues, with the right attention to detail;
  • Team player with a problem-solving mindset;
  • Preferably knowledge and understanding of the commodities industry.
