Viterra Chartering B.V. is seeking a Vetting Officer. As Vetting officer, you will assist the vetting desk with requests of mainly dry bulk vessels, PSC performance monitoring, incidents analysis and support the Chartering and Legal team with technical matters. Our Vetting team consists of 1 vetting coordinator and is to be integrated into our fleet management team. You will be working in the middle of the business. As vetting officer, your first goal is to learn the system we use, our company requirements and vetting procedure for vetting a (dry bulk) vessel. Your role as vetting office is crucial for maintaining our fleet’s integrity and ensuring safe and efficient operations.

About Viterra Chartering B.V.
Viterra Chartering B.V. has office locations in Rotterdam and Singapore. The company consists of multiple teams: Freight Trade, Operations (Voyage and Time Chartering), Bunker desk, Technical and Vetting management/Sustainability, Freight Accounting, Risk- and Position management all supported by our Digital Development team, totaling >70 team members. The primary function of Viterra Chartering B.V. is to commercially manage, execute and operate all dry bulk sea freight requirements and risks, which arise within the grain- and oilseed trading activities of Viterra B.V. We manage between 180-220 dry bulk vessels and annually transport about 65 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo globally, which makes us one of the bigger companies operating in dry bulk shipping.

Your role in our network

  • You will conduct thorough vetting of vessels, including inspections, safety audits and compliance checks (in cooperation with our compliance team) with international and company-specific standards;
  • You will analyse and verify documentation related to vessel and crew compliance, including certifications, maintenance records, and safety logs;
  • You are responsible to maintain accurate and confidential records of all vetting activities and outcomes;
  • You are involved in providing your technical view on investments in relation to optimizing the efficiency and sustainability of our vessels;
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging trends in shipping;
  • You will assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to vessel vetting;
  • You are involved in the learning and development of our operational and commercial team on technical knowledge.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Maritime studies, shipping management, or a related field;
  • You have a minimum of 2 years’ see-going experience as deck or Engine Officer, preferably bulk carriers;
  • Strong knowledge of internal maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC and ISM code;
  • Strong knowledge of maritime organisations, IMO, Classification societies, P&I Clubs, etc;
  • Strong knowledge of maritime inspection, PSC inspection, Rightship inspection etc;
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • You have a practical and proactive attitude and good communication skills;
  • Proficiency in using maritime (vetting) software tools;
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn the company’s business;
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
